The Gordon Education System
Developed by Gordon Education to specifically target areas of
the Western Australian primary school mathematics curriculum,
the Gordon Education System is the culmination of the experience
of all of our tutors. Over the many years that our
experienced tutors have seen students, several areas of
attention have arisen that just about every struggling student
battles with. All of these areas can be traced back either
to Primary School, or early High School.
Numeracy skills seem to be at an all-time low, with most
education institutions unwittingly making their students too
dependent on modern technology such as calculators. Times
tables are poorly understood, and the basis behind mathematics
is no longer taught. Hence students in Year 11 and 12 seem
to battle through the basic areas of mathematical disciplines.
With these areas in mind, we developed a program to directly
target areas of weakness. The Gordon Education System is a
product which takes students back to basics: it reinforces
numeracy, and encourages students to explore mathematics with
interest and passion.
The Gordon Education System consists of daily homework, set
for your child by one of our supervisors. The program is
flexible, and can be tailored to your needs. While a
program of this type must involve a certain degree of rote
learning, the focus of the Gordon Education System is on
understanding. Rote learning is only used to increase
speed and accuracy in basic numeracy. A sound
understanding of mathematics is the emphasis.
The program is directly focused at Western Australian
learning objectives in mathematics, making it the only program
of its kind in WA. It is organised into levels, each level
covering a basic concept in mathematics. Every level
contains many questions sequentially designed to reinforce
basics, develop problem solving skills, and apply knowledge to a
broad spectrum of situations in real life. At the end of
each level, exercises have been included to stimulate a child's understanding
in mathematics through investigation and discovery.
