Frequently Asked Questions

Who normally uses a Personal Tutor?
Any student, no matter what level, may thrive under a personal tutor.  Students requiring remediation in a subject will notice immediate improvements under the guidance of a tutor.  The top students considering entrance into competitive courses such as Medicine, Dentistry, Law, and Engineering may also find a tutor helpful to maximise their performance.  Any student will benefit from the assistance of one of our tutors.

Who should consider the Gordon Education System?
The Gordon Education System is focused at primary school aged children, although lower high school students may also benefit.  The idea of Gordon Education is to give the student a solid grasp of the basics of mathematics before there is a problem.  While Primary School mathematics students can use Top Thinkers Tutoring, Gordon Education is much more cost effective and beneficial in the long run.  After studying the Gordon Education System, many students, who would otherwise have struggled, excel without a personal tutor.

What subjects do you cover?
Top Thinkers Tutoring covers ALL Primary School and High School subjects.  The Gordon Education System at this stage only covers Mathematics, however the effects of the student's increased understanding and confidence should flow on to other subjects, especially the sciences, but also English and the Arts.

Do you use computer-based learning at all?
We believe that a computer cannot replace a living, breathing, thinking tutor or supervisor.  Thus, we do not use computer software for the tuition of any of our clients.  Computers cannot use reason to adapt an education program to an individual student, and explain concepts poorly when a student runs into trouble.  Hence, our system relies on face-to-face contact between a tutor/supervisor and student, sometimes with set homework, reviewed by a person.  No computer software in our lifetimes will ever replace this.

How much does it cost?
The cost of personal tuition varies depending upon your location and level of schooling.  Call us during office hours on (08) 9284 0666 for a quote.  The Gordon Education System costs $77.00 per month, including GST, regardless of location, school level, or study centre attendance.

What if I have a problem with my tutor/supervisor?
Simply ring our office, any time of day or night, to sort out your problem.  Someone is available 24 hours a day to take your call and rectify the situation.  A problem we don't know about is one we can't fix, and they are often easy to fix when they are small.

In less than 2% of cases, a student and tutor may not be compatible for each other.  This could be due to many reasons, including personality, learning/teaching techniques, etc.  If this happens, please call us, and we will replace your tutor immediately.  You will not be charged for the session.  While we take all possible care to match our clients and staff correctly, the possibility of this happening is low, but still finite.  It is, however, less likely than if you were to use a freelance "friend-of-a-friend" tutor, where no placement considerations are made.

How do you select your tutors?
Our tutors are chosen from the brightest and friendliest people who either apply for a position with us, or are approached and offered a job.  We use a lot of university students, especially those studying in a related field to that which they tutor.  University students not only have the advantage of natural intellect, but they are close enough to the age of your child that they can easily communicate and understand the tribulations of secondary schooling, yet are old enough that they will be respected.  We have found this to be the best combination.  University students have the added advantage of being very good role models for students.

How do I know that my tutor is of the highest quality, and is trustworthy?
All tutors who work for us are required to have undergone an Australia-wide Federal Police Clearance check.  We only employ those tutors who will do the best possible job, since we rely on word of mouth for most of our new customers.  All tutors are stringently tested, for both subject knowledge and communication skills.  This is backed up by our 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Are your services a replacement for schooling?
No!  Our services are merely designed to complement the education that your child is receiving within the formal education system.
